I am an elected official in the City of Biddeford — Maine’s 8th largest city. This evening I proposed an amendment to our city charter to change municipal elections to Saturdays. Should the voters uphold this change in November — Biddeford will be the first city in Maine to hold its municipal elections on Saturdays! I read an article on CNN about “Why Tuesday?” and it led me to propose the change. This is a huge step in the right direction for Maine and its voting day.
This is one of the greatest e-mails we’ve ever gotten, from Ryan Fecteau in Biddeford, Maine. Re-printed with his permission. Here’s the CNN article Ryan references.

About

We're a nonpartisan and nonprofit group, founded in 2005, dedicated to increasing America's horrible voter turnout by asking a simple question: why do we vote on Tuesday? The answer: absolutely no good reason whatsoever. You'll find a longer and equally infuriating answer in this TED talk.

We hope you'll sign our petition asking the President and Congress to pass The Weekend Voting Act, which would move elections to Saturday & Sunday (duh) so more people can vote.

We also have an old-school website.
